Michael Renehan received the 2011 Master Teacher award. The art director wanted to do all the photos in HDR. I convinced them that high contrast B&W would be better for most subjects. After seeing the results they agreed.

ur university has it's own stone quarry. The stone is used on all new buildings to give the campus a consistent look. This portrait was done for a story on the stone masons who work in the quarry.

Ching-Hong Yang, associate professor of biological sciences, photographed with tobacco plants and a petri dish for the Research Report. Yang has developed a compound that shuts off the genetic pathway that allows the pathogen to infect the plants. It is novel because it stops infection without killing the bacteria that causes it, avoiding the possibility of resistance forming to antibiotics, the traditional route to cure infection.
