1st Place (157 pts.) - "Electro Magnetic" by Thomas Shea, University of Houston.

"Ellen O'Conner : The electromagnetics group here is one of the best in the country. All four professors, Drs. Jackson, Wilton, Williams and Long, are internationally recognized, particularly interested in dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs), which were first proposed by Dr. Stuart Long. The heart of any wireless network is its antenna and DRAs offer many advantages. They are low profile, low-loss antennas suitable for high frequency applications. Dr. Long is a leading authority on the subject, so an opportunity to study under him was very exciting."

2nd Place (152 pts.) - "Successful Alum" by Kristen Bartlett Grace, University of Florida.

"Stacy Cervantes, a medical college alum, has opened her own pediatrician practice that has proved very quickly to be overwhelmingly successful. I photographed her in her waiting room for a feature article being produced by the College of Medicine about alumni. Her wall was decorated with hand prints of her patients. I decided to preserve the color of one of the hand prints and desaturate the rest of the image for impact."

"Nick Andrews, a sophomore from Helena majoring in media and theatre arts at Montana State University, recently completed a reality show for the mtvU network. The young filmmaker was selected after his short, humorour videos drew the attention of mtvU casting directors and producers."

"Jevohn Shepherd takes a run at the rim against Savannah State on November 29, 2008. Down 39-19 at the half, the Wolverines capped an exciting comeback with a 66-64 overtime victory at Crisler Arena."

2nd Place (148 pts.) - "Power Grab" by Martin Vloet, University of Michigan.

"Texas A&M guard Danielle Gant (55) slips under Michigan's Melinda Queen (51) and Veronica Hicks to get a few fingers on the ball while other fingers hold her above the hardwood. The Wolverines were a missed three-pointer away from taking the 12th-ranked Aggies to overtime."

"Casey Flair steps out of bounds in the end zone before making a reception in a game against Wyoming."

"Freshman goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson of Lake Superior State watches the puck sail past his eyes during the second period of the Nanooks' 4-1 win Nov. 28 in the Carlson Center."
