The alarms went off early Friday morning and we gathered to drive into Bryce Canyon for a sunrise shoot. We were treated to a nice cool morning and a perfect sunrise.

After the shoot, we gathered to hear Doug Levere's presentation on using Smugmug for Digital Asset Management. Then we had a panel discussion on the future of our profession, covering a variety of topics including data preservation, Chargeback vs Funded operations, video production and advances in camera technology. It was a great discussion that highlighted the importance of our counseling together every year.

In the business meeting we were shown the new UPAA.org and the state of our organization. Finally we concluded the Symposium with some BBQ and the presentation of the Publications, Print, Multimedia and Board Awards. Lifetime membership was bestowed on Jim Dusen, Dave Myers and Neil Rankin. Board Appreciation Awards were given to Tracy Ellig of Montana State University and Dr. Clifford L. Wood of Rockland Community College.

Mark A. Philbrick of Brigham Young University recieved the President's Award for his work in hosting the 50th Anniversary Symposium. Jaren Wilkey of Brigham Young University was given the Distinguished Service Award for his work on the UPAA Blog and the marketing campaigns for the Symposium. Kelly Gorham received the Rollin H. Barrett Award for his tireless work on the Contact Sheet. Check out a video of the awards presentation below:

Of course the highlight of the day was Alison Fidel's live performance of "I will survive Symposium" (check it out below).

Although it was a lot of work for us, we are so grateful for everyone who came and especially to those who helped us put on the show. See you next year in Ohio. Here is a slide show recapping the great week we had in Utah:
